Showing at the Hot Doc Film Festival: Complaints Choir, directed by Ada Bligaard Søby
Synopsis from the Hot Docs website:
No matter their situation in life, everyone complains. From “Why do trains always smell like pee?” to “All good-looking guys are gay,” bitching may just be the world’s true universal language. But according to Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Koctha-Kalleinen, why say it when you can sing it instead? They hatch the Complaint Choir Project, where ordinary citizens gather to convert their everyday quibbles into lyrics and to exorcise their pent-up negativity through performance. Novel and transformative, Complaint Choirs take off in Helsinki, Melbourne, Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and Birmingham. But as cameras follow attempts to organize choirs in Singapore and Chicago, two very different melodies result. Fun and insightful, Complaints Choir provides a wholly original look at everyday life around the world. - Myrocia Watamaniuk
